Crisis Support & Counseling
Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee operates two 24/7 helplines for individuals in crisis, offering immediate connections to support and resources.
The Tennessee Domestic Violence Helpline
Domestic violence impacts the entire family. All children have the right to be protected from violence, exploitation, and abuse. We know that survivors of domestic violence often cite their children as a primary reason why they choose to stay or leave an abusive relationship. Their children’s well-being is their primary concern. It is for this reason that Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee invests significant resources in managing the statewide domestic violence helpline.
The helpline is the only 24/7 domestic violence helpline serving all of Tennessee. Callers are connected immediately to crisis intervention specialists who provide connection to resources, safety plan with victims, conduct lethality assessments with local police, and assist in transitioning callers to the next level of help. The Statewide Domestic Violence Helpline is a referral and counseling helpline for victims of domestic violence. Counselors are available 24/7 to offer referrals and supportive listening, and help with safety planning.
We also offer free on-call coverage to domestic violence shelters in Tennessee for their local helplines after close of business on weekdays and during weekends and holidays. Our on-call service leverages limited resources, freeing up shelter staff to focus on shelter residents’ needs rather than those of after-hours callers in crisis.
Funding for the Domestic Violence Hotline is provided by the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA).
