5 things every child needs - #1

Reading.

Reading to your child from the earliest days of life shows its importance and creates a lifelong love of books.

Reading is one of the best ways to expand your child’s vocabulary. Not only are you able to share new words, thoughts, and feelings with your child, but you can encourage their ability to ask questions too. With every turn of a page, you can use books to introduce your child to different cultures or topics you are passionate about. Even when your child decides what his favorite book is, and you read it over and over (and over and over), the bond you have together will grow as will his love of learning.

Building a good foundation for reading will help him develop a healthy memory, creativity, comprehension for school, language and communication skills, and a strong connection between the neurons in his brain. And the best part is, you don’t have to be a stellar reader to give your child these benefits! In fact, you don’t even need to be able to read the language of the book you are showing your child. Just look at the pictures and make up your own story. Reading is a great way to introduce your child to a love of learning and all you need to make it happen is a book and a lap!
