Nurturing Parent Classes
Nurturing Parenting Programs is an education program to be used with families in situations that impact their ability to parent.
Sessions are 2 hours in duration and meet weekly for 8 weeks.
A children’s component is available to provide skill-building activities to children for families bringing children with them.
The Nurturing Parenting Programs have been field tested with:
- Families at risk of abuse and neglect
- Families identified by local social services as abusive or neglectful
- Families in recovery for alcohol and other drug use
Pre-test and post-test data gathered showed significant positive changes in parenting and child rearing attitudes, including: expectations appropriate to development; increased empathy; decreased corporal punishment; decreased parent-child role reversal. This curriculum places greater emphasis on helping parents develop concrete parenting skills as well as think about the influence and importance of individual cultures on parenting and the parent child relationship.
Agencies receive:
- Results of each participant standardized pre-and post-test (The Adolescent Adult Parenting Inventory)
- Strength/Needs Summary at 30 day intervals available to participants and referring agency (with signed consent)
- A copy of participants Nurturing Quiz and Family Social History Questionnaire.
- Weekly summary notes of client participation and material covered.
